Which minibuses need a Class 5L MOT?
Class 5 is for private passenger vehicles with more than 12 passenger seats (the driver's seat doesn't count). The "L" band is the lighter one, for 13 to 16 passenger seats: the usual 17-seat minibus such as a Transit, Sprinter or Master minibus.
Minibuses with 9 to 12 passenger seats are also Class 4 but need a seatbelt check too, so call us for the price. Up to 8 passenger seats is a normal Class 4 car MOT.
Price
A Class 5L minibus MOT is £55, below DVSA's £59.55 maximum, with a free retest within 10 working days.
What's different about a minibus MOT?
Along with everything in a car MOT, the tester pays close attention to passenger safety:
- Every passenger seat and its mountings
- Seatbelts on every seat, their anchorages and buckles
- Doors, emergency exits and their signs
- Steps, handrails and floor condition
- Brake performance at the vehicle's full weight
- Speed limiter, where one is required

If your organisation runs a minibus, we can remind you when the MOT is due and book it in at a time that won't clash with the school run or weekend fixtures. Call 01952 588005 to talk it through.
