How the free retest works
- Your vehicle fails. You get the fail list and a quote for the repairs.
- Get it fixed. Here, or wherever you like.
- Bring it back within 10 working days. Working days are Monday to Friday, not counting bank holidays. The day of the test doesn't count.
- The retest is free. The tester checks the items that failed and the new MOT goes onto DVSA's records.
Example: if your car fails on a Monday, you have until the Monday two weeks later to bring it back for its free retest (one day longer if there's a bank holiday in between).
Why we make it simple
DVSA's own rules only guarantee a free retest in some situations, and some garages charge up to half the MOT fee for a retest. We think that's unfair when the vehicle just needed a bulb or a tyre, so every MOT we do includes a free retest within 10 working days.
After 10 working days
After that it needs a full MOT again, at the normal price. If you think you'll need longer to get parts, tell us and we'll help you plan the repair so you don't run out of time.
